Richard Agar refused to shed any light on Harry Newman's status ahead of Leeds Rhinos' round one clash with Warrington Wolves.
The centre is an injury doubt after suffering a hamstring injury in the pre-season victory over Hull FC late last month.
Initially, he was expected to miss the season opener on Channel 4 but the tone has changed slightly as the game has drawn nearer.
Newman was named in the 21-man squad by Agar on Thursday, but the Rhinos coach was reluctant to confirm if that meant he was fit.
"Well we'll see tomorrow," Agar said.
"He's been feeling better every day but with Blake going out we're not going to reveal our team.
"Harry's inclusion could impact who plays at six tomorrow. Unfortunately guys, you'll have to wait until tomorrow."
Newman's availability would be a boost to Agar following the news of Blake Austin's suspension. Liam Sutcliffe would be an obvious choice to fill in during his absence, but Newman's injury would then leave them considering their options at centre.
Agar admitted he was disappointed with the way the halfback's ban has been handled but insists they still have plenty of options available to them.
"Everyone's been telling me all off-season the massive headaches I've got, there's going to be some good players, really good players, not in our team tomorrow. We'd love Blake in our team for this one but we've been able to make those contingencies by putting some very good players in the starting line-up."
