Rhys Williams an Aberdeen FC transfer 'target' as Liverpool star lined up for Leighton Clarkson reunion

Aberdeen are reportedly lining up a box office move for Liverpool defender Rhys Williams.

The English defender is an established senior at Anfield despite being just 22 but has fallen down the pecking order in recent seasons and spent time out on loan at Swansea and Blackpool. He has 19 senior appearances for the Reds and the Scottish Sun say Barry Robson wants to bring him to Aberdeen and give him a platform to re-establish himself in the spotlight.

It comes after the Dons brought Clarkson back permanently and they hope Williams will see his rise to prominence at Pittodrie as a sign it could be the place for him. It's claimed Barry Robson is keen on a move and that Liverpool are open to offers for Williams, although likely won't be selling for a pittance with three years still to run on his contract. The Dons have an established relationship with Liverpool after Calvin Ramsay went to Anfield last summer and may hope to utilise that to land Williams.
