Rhod Gilbert has revealed he sometimes spends days or "whole weeks" in bed as he struggles with health issues following his cancer diagnosis. In a new interview, the Welsh comedian opened up about his stage four cancer treatment and recovery, reported The Mirror.
The 54-year-old was a fundraising patron for the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff before his diagnosis - which he announced six months ago - and he has undergone surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy there since. He recently postponed a series of stand-up shows scheduled for this month after learning he required following additional surgery for gallstones and gallbladder infections.
Speaking about his cancer battle, Rhod said: "Some days I’m well enough to potter and other days, or whole weeks, I’m in bed." He admitted "the cancer is on my mind 24/7" and it would form the basis of a new stand-up show when he is well enough.

Rhod, who previously doubted he would ever write another show, told the Guardian : "Every Edinburgh I was like, ‘How on earth am I going to write another show next year? How am I going to write even another five minutes?'
"Whereas now I’m mad keen. I've got a 250-page document of stuff that’s on the go."
He went on to say: "The cancer is on my mind 24/7, but, when I’m well enough to write, I’m jotting down a few things. And there is humour in there, definitely."
The remaining seven dates of his The Book Of John live tour, which had been scheduled for this month, have been pushed back until May and June. Rhod added: "All my work has gone. My social life has gone. Everything has gone. I’s just me and this bloody cancer, really.
"I’m really aware of mental health now and I’m checking in with myself every day. I feel fine, weirdly. I’m happy, optimistic and hopeful that next year it’ll all come good."
