Reynolds looks past Broncos' Storm anomaly

Brisbane's NRL finals fate was in the balance on Sunday afternoon but Broncos captain Adam Reynolds was watching a movie.

He wasn't nervous or indifferent though - the father of four just didn't have control of the television remote.

So Lightyear - a spin on the popular Toy Story movies - it was in the Reynolds household as Canberra surged from 14 points behind to beat Newcastle and remain a chance of dislodging the Broncos from the finals.

"Four kids mate; it's a bit hard to get the TV at times and I found myself watching Buzz Lightyear," he laughed to reporters on Monday.

"Pretty good movie."

It was some light relief after a torrid weekend that began with Brisbane harbouring top-four hopes and ended with them clinging to eighth.

A record 60-12 loss to Melbourne on Friday was a rough clunk back to earth for Brisbane, who have lost three of their last four matches and face in-form Parramatta on Thursday.

A win there, in Reynolds' 250th NRL game, would all but ensure a finals berth ahead of Canberra.

The Raiders are one win behind with two rounds remaining, but crucially still 46 points adrift on for-and-against.

NRL statistics counted 61 missed tackles against the Storm, who galloped in for six second-half tries as Brisbane conceded 60 points for just the second time.

Reynolds insists the side are still capable of producing their own Disney-style happy ending.

"Just keep believing in the system, structure because we've got to where we are for a reason," Reynolds said when asked what he told his teammates in the dressing room.

"It doesn't just go away overnight; one bad performance doesn't justify where we are as a group.

"It's about continually holding ourselves accountable."

Defensive cornerstone Kurt Capewell (ankle) didn't train on Monday but is confident of facing the Eels, while Zac Hosking was among a number of fringe Broncos pulled from second-grade action on the weekend in a sign he could be recalled.

"He (Capewell) is alright and feeling fine and assured us he'll be there on the weekend," Reynolds said of the Queensland backrower.

"We need everyone out there doing their job."
