Rex Ryan Fires Up Jets Fans With Declaration About Team’s Ceiling After Aaron Rodgers Trade

Monday’s blockbuster trade that is sending Aaron Rodgers to the Jets has understandably galvanized a long-suffering fanbase and that was on full display Tuesday morning. No, it wasn’t in the streets of New York, but on ESPN’s Get Up when former NFL coach and current analyst Rex Ryan showed up to work in a Jets letterman jacket while sporting some impressive team jewelry.

“This happens to be Super Bowl III—my dad’s Super Bowl ring right here,” he said. “Why am I wearing it? Because the Jets are going! And to me, watch out everybody, here come the Jets! Here come the Jets!”

Ryan’s father, the legendary Buddy Ryan, was New York’s defensive line coach when they won the Super Bowl in 1969—the last time the franchise won the coveted title.

“This is the missing piece for the New York Jets right here,” Ryan continued. “And you know what? Guess what, all you fans in the AFC East: It ain’t no fun when the rabbit’s got the gun!”

Ryan is so excited because not only does he have familial ties to the franchise, but personal ones as well. He coached New York to back-to-back AFC championship games while on the sidelines for the Jets from 2009 to ’14, but he was never able to reach the Super Bowl.

For the first time in a long time, there’s hope among Jets fans that the team can finally go all the way.
