Rex Ryan doesn’t mind kicking a team while they’re down.
Ryan, who interviewed for the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator position this offseason but didn’t get the job, blasted the team’s defense and indirectly criticized coordinator Vance Joseph after their two-point loss in Week 2.
Buy Broncos TicketsFollowing an absolutely embarrassing 70-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 3, Ryan was back on ESPN earlier this week to criticize Denver’s defense once again.
“You know what’s funny, I’m sitting here like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ That could have been me there — like, literally — maybe they should have ponied up a little bit, you know what I’m saying?” Ryan said on Get Up, seemingly suggesting the Broncos should have met his contract demands this offseason.

Ryan did not hold back.
“It’s just brutal,” the former coach said. “I see it as absolutely a disgrace. … Nobody saw this coming. This defense literally was supposed to be top-five defense in the league and maybe No. 1 with the right guy running it.”
Ryan clearly seems to be implying that he would have been a better choice to run the team’s defense without directly mentioning Joseph. The Broncos, meanwhile, have said they’re not firing Joseph (at least not this week).
If the defense continues to struggle, though, Joseph’s job might be in jeopardy at some point. If the current DC is eventually fired, Ryan might be a name to keep on eye on as a potential replacement.
