Revolut rolls out credit cards for Irish customers

Revolut is set to launch credit cards to existing customers in Ireland.

The approval process will be immediate for eligible customers, the fintech company has said, with the Revolut app giving them the option to set a budget for credit spending. There will be no interest for the first three months as long as customers make monthly minimum payments. After this time the APR is 17.99%.

Revolut Europe chief Joe Heneghan said: "We're delighted to add Revolut credit cards to our financial super app, giving our customers in Ireland more control and flexibility over their personal finances in a responsible way. We've developed the technology to provide credit cards to approved customers with limits tailored to affordability, so they can get the credit they need, when they need it."

Revolut users will be able to use virtual credit cards while waiting for their physical ones to arrive. Just like the debit cards, they can be added to mobile wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

To apply for a Revolut Credit Card, users in Ireland can go to the Hub in the Revolut app and click on Credit Cards.

This isn't the first major change the neobank has made recently. Last month, it was revealed that their app will begin to offer Irish IBANs, which they say will improve customers' experience. For now though, Irish Revolut users have Lithuanian IBANs.

An Irish IBAN would make a Revolut account better suited to use as a primary bank account. This means it would be easier getting salary paid directly into Revolut, making payments via direct debit, and paying utility providers directly from your Revolut account. It will also make it easier for customers to switch their bank account from traditional banks to Revolut.
