Routine checks at Dublin Port and Airport over the weekend resulted in a hefty cannabis bust after 4.4kg was discovered in a vehicle while chewing tobacco was found in a package.
An Irish-registered car was stopped on its route through the Port from Holyhead and was searched, with officers estimating the concealed cannabis to be worth around €88k.
Two men in their 20s were arrested by An Garda Síochána at the scene and were detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Store Street Garda Station.

On another occasion - on November 18 - as part of routine operations, Revenue officers seized 150kgs of chewing tobacco with an estimated value of €82,500, at Dublin Airport.
The chewing tobacco, branded ‘Makla’, was discovered with the assistance of detector dog Gus.
It was concealed in an air cargo consignment that originated in Belgium and was destined for an address in Dublin’s South City area.
