Revenue detector dogs sniff out 2kg of illegal cannabis at Dublin Port and tobacco in Meath

The Revenue detector dogs were hard at work again recently as they found illegal drugs and tobacco in Dublin and Meath.

At Dublin Port today it was James who was on the case as he found 2kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of more than €42,000. The package had originated in France and was heading to an address in Balbriggan.

While at a premises in Co Meath detector dog Toby found 95kgs of chewing tobacco worth more than €52,000 on Friday. The chewing tobacco, branded ‘Makla’, had originated in Belgium and was making its way to Dublin.

Investigations are ongoing into both seizures. A Revenue spokesman said: "These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and smuggling. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295."
