Rev. Amos Brown, a prominent pastor at Third Baptist Church and current president of the San Francisco NAACP, has recently come into the spotlight following revelations made during a recent interview. Brown disclosed that Vice President Kamala Harris reached out to him shortly after President Biden announced he would not seek re-election, asking for his prayers during what she described as the most significant campaign of her career.
Brown, who has a longstanding relationship with Harris and her family spanning over two decades, was invited by Harris to attend her inauguration in 2021. However, his past sermons and controversial statements are now raising concerns about his potential impact on Harris' campaign. In the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001, Brown made critical remarks about America's actions in the global arena, questioning the country's involvement in regions like Central America and Africa where conflicts persisted.
In an op-ed from April 2008, Brown defended Reverend Jeremiah Wright and argued that media reports had misrepresented Wright's sermons. He disputed claims that his preaching style was similar to Wright's, rejecting the characterization of their tone as 'fiery' in response to a San Francisco Chronicle article.
