Retro Easter eggs from your childhood - how many of these do you remember?

It's almost that time of year that both adults and kids get excited for all the chocolate they can indulge in - no, not Christmas - but Easter.

Chocolate Easter eggs have been getting chocolate lovers excited for decades now and, no matter how old you are, you still expect a chocolate egg waiting for you.

While the egg has been a long-standing symbol for new life at this time of year, for many of us it is synonymous with running around the back garden for the chocolate egg you begged your mum for.

Ah, simpler times.

And, while we have been enjoying these delicious treats for as long as we can remember, they have certainly gone through quite the change over the years.

In fact, some of our favourite childhood from Nestle, Cadbury and Rowntree can either no longer be found on supermarket shelves, or have changed completely.

Nowadays, the chocolate selection lining supermarket shelves are a far cry from what we used to enjoy - not that we're complaining at all.

Long gone are the days of the simple milk chocolate egg, which has been replaced with chocolate eggs of all different shapes, sizes and flavours, with some even including alcohol.

And, because we always like a bit of nostalgia, we have decided to take a look back at some popular Easter eggs throughout the decades just to see how much they have changed.

Of course, this list is not exhaustive, and only covers a small selection of the amount that we have enjoyed over the years, so please write in the comments if we missed your personal favourite.

1. Creme Egg

No Easter was complete with a Creme Egg (Daily Mirror)

Has it ever really been Easter without the iconic Creme Egg from Cadbury's? For a lot of us, no Easter is complete without the yearly staple and it has certainly had a makeover in recent years.

2. Giant Smarties

If you wanted something simple, Smarties was always a classic choice. Nothing too fancy, but it has still been delighting kids and grown-ups for generations.

3. Yorkie

Remember back in the days when Yorkie wasn't for women? Yeah, we remember those days as well, but it didn't stop many of us from enjoying them now, did it?

4. Milky Bar

Where is the Milky Bar Kid these days? (Internet unknown)

Milky Bar has been delighting chocolate lovers since it was first launched in the 30s, but - let's face it - we all associate that with the Milky Bar Kid. They've tried reviving the Milky Bar jingle in recent years, but it's not the same.

5. Roses

Roses chocolates were not only for Christmas (Daily Mirror)

Roses weren't just for Christmas and it was usually the grown-ups that asked for this one! Not only did you get a hollow chocolate egg but you also got a neat selection of chocolates from the tin alongside it.

The Rolo chocolate egg has certainly changed (Daily Mirror)

Like the Fruit Pastels and Smarties, Rolo was a simple chocolate and its Easter Egg was even simpler. Just a simple chocolate egg and a couple of packets of Rolo and you were good to go. We must admit, that this is one of the chocolate eggs that has stayed relatively the same over the years.

8. Walnut Whip
