Retro Bristol pub with £2.90 pints reopens with new owners after major refurbishment

The White Bear is often considered a student haunt due to its close proximity to the University of Bristol. Once thought to be the last stopping station before the old road to Wales, the 18th-century pub on St Michael's Hill has a long history as a popular boozer.

In recent years, the pub has changed management quite a few times. Its long-running owners, who were at the helm for more than a decade, decided to call time at the bar at the end of 2018. Since then a number of people have taken over but then given up fairly swiftly, meaning the pub has been in a state of flux.

Eran Kenny is now the pub's operations manager and has been overseeing the refurbishment. The White Bear team started with a top-to-toe clean of the venue to revive the old features, removing the bar, buffing up the floor, and painting every wall and ceiling.
