Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Michael Varado, a decorated war hero, has passed away at the age of 40 due to complications stemming from injuries sustained during his service in Afghanistan. In 2010, Varado bravely stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) while on duty, resulting in the loss of his left leg, part of his left arm, severe burns, and a traumatic brain injury.
