Retail giant Matalan has confirmed it will officially open its doors in East Kilbride town centre this week.
The impressive 20,000 sq ft new retail space - in the short-lived Plaza TJ Hughes unit - will be joining the other roster of shops, leisure and food outlets available and officially opening its doors and inviting customers down on Friday (November 4).
Lanarkshire Live revealed in August that Matalan was advertising for both permanent and temporary staff in the town.
It is a much-needed boost for the town and particularly retail, which has been hit hard in recent times with the loss of big names such as Debenhams from the town centre.
The store will offer a womenswear department for on-trend stylish clothing, footwear and accessories, including some of Matalan’s own brands Papaya, Et Vous and Souluxe, a kidswear range including concessions such as Claire’s Accessories and Totally Toys and a small seasonal homeware section.
Allan McGowan, store manager, told Lanarkshire Live : “We are extremely excited to be arriving in East Kilbride.
"The store will bring an amazing shopping environment to the Centre by offering outstanding product at amazing value.
"We cannot wait to showcase our brand new store to our customers and look forward to seeing you all very soon.”
The retailer promises something for every customer and occasion all under one roof and the benefit of the in-store click and collect service will also provide customers within the East Kilbride and surrounding area a key location to collect online orders.
Adding to the success of Matalan’s own in house brands, there is the recent introduction of external fashion brands online at www.matalan.co.uk, including Little Mistress, Girls on Film, Ben Sherman, Clarks, Wrangler, Lee Jeans, Tresspass and Craghoppers, to name a few.
A spokesperson for EK, East Kilbride said: “Matalan is one of the high street’s biggest names and we are delighted the retailer has chosen to bring its unique offer to EK, East Kilbride.
"This is a fantastic boost to the town centre that will create a number of new jobs, and offer shoppers a new fashion experience with its ladies and children’s ranges. We look forward to Matalan opening its doors on Friday, November 4.”
