Restoration contractor appoints new boss and launches recruitment drive

Kishorn Heritage has appointed Daniel Tweats as its new managing director.

He succeeds his father Mike, a stonemasonry specialist who founded the company in the mid 1990s. It has since built a portfolio of restoration and build projects as principle contractor on properties across the Highlands and Islands.

The family-owned business, founded in the West Highlands, Kishorn's client base includes some of Scotland’s biggest country estates, castles and private homes.

Starting his career with the company in 2007, Daniel went on to earn a degree in quantity surveying at Heriot-Watt University, before working on assignments such as Crossrail, the Thames Tideway Tunnel and HS2.

Having returned to Kishorn in 2020, he takes over from his dad, who will continue as a director and consultant.

Tweats junior will head up a recruitment drive for around 10 new roles, including project and site managers, buyers, planners and trades like stonemasons and joiners.

“We want to add people who share our passion for creating and restoring beautiful buildings,” said Daniel. “Candidates can expect competitive remuneration and a supportive working environment where we will prioritise their personal and professional development.”

The business is also set to open a new headquarters in a restored townhouse in Inverness during August to accommodate the expansion.

Between seven and 10 people will be based at the office, out of total staff roster of 57.

Currently, Kishorn is nearing completion on the latest phase of a five-year, £30m restoration and renovation of an A listed Highland castle, adding a conservatory and boathouse.

It is also the preferred masonry sub-contractor for the Caledonian Canal and principle contractor on the Crinan Canal lock renovation works.
