Restaurant selling £150 golden steaks in expansion row with neighbours

A restaurant that sells golden steaks for £150 is embroiled in a battle with its neighbours.

The owners of Beefalo Meat House want to more than double the restaurant's capacity. They save submitted proposals to convert the first floor and extend the maximum number of diners from 90 to 225.

Beefalo offers a ‘golden burger’ for £45 and gold leaf covered steaks for £150. It is run by chef Yuce, who launched Macello Meathouse and Kassap Meathouse on Bold Street in Liverpool city centre. Beefalo opened in Bolton last year.

Its website states: “They have attracted many celebrities and become a regular spot for many Liverpool FC players. Now, chef Yuce is bringing his famous steak dishes with his own technique to Bolton, with a new brand, Beefalo Meat House.”

As well as an array of steak, burgers, seafood and vegetarian dishes, the restaurant's menu features a ‘golden cuts’ section where ‘all golden steaks come ’24k gold leaf covered’. Prices in that section are £150 for a one kilo golden fillet, the same price for a tomahawk steak and £45 for a ‘golden burger’. Standard steaks range from £20 to £120.

The Bolton restaurant's plans have attracted criticism. 113 residents have lodged objections to the move citing health and safety concerns, noise at night and parking issues.

One local claimed it will lead to an increase in both traffic and "risk of serious accident during school hours". Another argued the expansion will have a knock on effect on parking for other businesses in Blackburn Road and St Paul’s Church.

Documents to be put before members of Bolton’s planning committee on Thursday state the restaurant plans the "conversion of the first floor to accommodate the additional seating". At a committee meeting in April, members deferred the application to allow the applicant to provide an up-to-date parking statement.

The report said: “Despite this request the applicant has not provided this additional information and has requested that the application be determined based on the information available in the current application.” Planning officers at the council have recommended that members approve the application.
