Manchester airport may be in serious disarray, but at least there’s now somewhere to get a steaming bowl of ramen while you wait for your luggage to materialise. The Wagamama noodle chain has opened its latest branch at the airport’s Terminal 2.
The new spot opened its doors last Friday, with all of the chain’s airport restaurants now having re-opened across the country too following the pandemic closures, at Gatwick South and North and at Heathrow T3 and T5.
The Manchester airport branch will serve breakfast until 11am every day, including dishes like kedgeree, eggs benedict served with Japanese steamed buns, a sausage katsu stack, and an English breakfast. There are also vegan options like goji berry and apple pancakes and coconut porridge.
The Manchester T2 branch, meanwhile, will boast its own exclusive juice on the menu, as well as a tailored gin from Thomas Dakin called the Gin+T2. And on a theme, the branch will also feature a large neon bee and honeycomb design features.
“We are so excited to finally be able to open all of our airport restaurant locations to meet the growing demand for international travel,” said Wagamama’s marketing manager Alice Eagle.
“We have welcomed our guests to enjoy our airport exclusive breakfast, as well as our main menu for several years now in Gatwick and Heathrow, and due to demand, are excited to be opening a brand new restaurant location at Manchester Airport T2 and reopening our iconic Gatwick South restaurant. We look forward to being able to continue nourishing the nation with a pre-flight pick me up.”
The new branch is the sixth in Manchester, joining the Printworks, St Peter’s Square, Spinningfields, Trafford Centre and Didsbury sites. But the timing of opening up the new T2 site could barely have been more problematic.
Passengers have described a ‘ complete nightmare ’ at the delays currently plaguing the airport, due to staff shortages, and what Manchester councillor Pat Karney has called a 'failure of management'. Karney has warned that the disruptions could last into the summer, with passengers waiting for hours to get through security, only to find it in disarray once there.
