RESIDENTS in a town in Fife have been told to keep their doors and windows closed following a “chemical incident”.
Emergency services said they were alerted to the incident in Glenrothes at about 11.35am on Tuesday.
The A92 is closed in both directions between the Preston Roundabout and the Tullis Russell Roundabout, and a diversion is in place via the B969.
Amey, which maintains the section of the road on behalf of Transport Scotland, said this is due to a “spillage on the carriageway”.
Local residents and businesses, particularly in the Alburne Park area, have been asked to keep all windows and doors closed.
Members of the public have also been advised to avoid the area.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services are in attendance at a chemical incident in the Glenrothes area which was reported around 11.35am on Tuesday, 8 September, 2026.
“The A92 is closed between the Preston Roundabout and the Tullis Russell Roundabout.
“Local residents and businesses, particularly in the Alburne Park area, are asked to keep all windows and doors closed.
“Members of the public should avoid the area.”
