Residents of Tappan Zee Drive in Pooler, Georgia, found themselves facing familiar challenges as Tropical Storm Debby caused flooding in their neighborhood. The storm, which brought heavy rainfall, resulted in ankle-deep flooding inside homes, leaving appliances swamped and residents watching as the water slowly rose.

Despite being located inland and seemingly not at high risk for tropical flooding, the neighborhood has a history of drainage issues dating back over a decade. Efforts by local authorities to address the problem have not been entirely successful, as evidenced by the recurring flooding incidents.

While Debby did not bring catastrophic flooding as initially feared, it still dumped significant amounts of rain in the area. Some low-lying neighborhoods, including Tappan Zee Drive, experienced flooding once again, with residents like Will Alt expressing frustration over the situation.

For some residents, the memories of past flooding events, such as during Hurricane Matthew in 2016, remain vivid. The aftermath of previous floods has led many homeowners to face tough decisions about the future of their properties, with some opting to sell due to the repeated damage.

One homeowner, Keon Johnson, shared his dilemma of not having flood insurance despite being told his house was not in a flood zone. Johnson's attachment to his home, despite its history of flood damage, reflects the emotional and financial complexities faced by many residents in the neighborhood.

As residents like Johnson grapple with the aftermath of yet another flooding event, questions remain about the long-term solutions needed to address the persistent drainage issues in the area. The lack of immediate responses from local officials adds to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Tappan Zee Drive and its residents.
