Residents of Tampa, Florida, are taking heed of mandatory evacuation orders as Hurricane Milton approaches, according to Fire Chief Barbara Tripp. Chief Tripp reported on Monday night that the evacuation efforts have been successful so far, with people complying with the orders.
Chief Tripp expressed her satisfaction with the community's response, stating, 'It’s been great. People are definitely listening this time.' She highlighted the importance of residents evacuating this time around, as during Hurricane Helene in September, fewer people evacuated, leading to numerous rescue operations that put emergency responders at risk.
