A councillor has vowed to get the 'criminal poison' out of a north Manchester town after a 'targeted and reckless' shooting last night. An investigation is underway after officers responded to reports of the suspected shooting on Rochdale Road in Harpurhey at around 11.20pm last night (Sunday).
It is thought that shots were fired at a property and no injuries were reported. However, police believe the shooting was 'targeted'.
A cordon was in place on Fernclough Road today while Tactical Aid Unit officers carried out investigations with sniffer dogs also used. Patrols have also been increased in the area.

Harpurhey councillor, Pat Karney, has reacted with 'alarm' at the incident, which he says has deeply worries local residents. He told the Manchester Evening News: "We welcome the extra police patrols in Harpurhey.
"Local residents are alarmed and anxious where this gun war will end. We will be seeking a meeting with the head of North Manchester Police about the growing use of guns and knives in our area.
"We will fight to keep this criminal poison out of Harpurhey."
This incident came just over a month after a mass brawl and shooting in the Irk Valley estate in Collyhurst on March 12. This incident was believed to have been linked to a similar incident days earlier on Tavistock Square, in Harpurhey, in what police called 'gang-linked' fighting.
Witnesses or any others with footage or information about last night's incident has been urged to come forward by police.
Detective Inspector Charlotte Quinn of GMP’s City of Manchester North District said: "I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we try and establish the full circumstances. Thankfully nobody was injured, and the incident is believed to be a targeted attack.
"This was a reckless attack and will not be tolerated in our communities in Greater Manchester. Extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area both on foot and in patrol cars.
"If you have any concerns about this incident our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.
"I cannot stress how important it is for the public to come forward if they have any information that could assist our investigation, whether it be CCTV footage, doorbell footage, photos, or descriptions of the suspects or events, we would ask that you report it to us directly."
Anyone with any information or footage should contact GMP on 0161 856 1146 quoting log 3723 of 16/04/2023. You can also report information via www.gmp.police.uk or through the independent charity Crimestoppers - anonymously – on 0800 555 111.
