More residential development at the former Rolls-Royce site in Hucknall has been approved. Hundreds of homes are already occupied at the site after plans were first put forward around ten years ago to transform the area.
It's just one of the applications decided upon by Ashfield District Council this week. Planning applications have to be approved by council officers, with the most significant going before a committee of elected councillors.
Other plans backed in Ashfield this week include the transformation of an old bakery and changes to a leisure centre. Below are some of the applications decided upon by Ashfield District Council this week.

Rolls-Royce site transformation
Approval has been given for more homes to be built at Hucknall's former Rolls-Royce aerodrome site. Hundreds of homes are already occupied after plans to transform the hub were first revealed in 2013.
But an application sought to expand Harrier Park on land to the north of the Rolls-Royce facility, as well as to extend proposed residential development to the east and to use an area of the business park at the south as residential. Ashfield District Council has approved all three elements of the application.
The area was once used to test experimental aircraft but production hangars have since been demolished at the site. Describing the aim of the project, application documents stated: "Our proposals aim to continue the previous masterplan creating a new piece of townscape, integrated with the existing urban area of Hucknall. In addition to forming physical connections with surrounding areas, the masterplan aims to create a transition between the surrounding residential areas, countryside and employment uses through a number of townscape elements."
Changes at former bakery
A former bakery will be turned into an entrance for the two-bedroom flat above it despite some concerns from nearby residents. The former Francis Bakery is located on Annesley Road in Hucknall and a residential flat is already in existence above the shop.
But following the permanent closure of the premises, building owners had applied to Ashfield District Council to determine whether permission was needed to transform the old bakery into an entrance with new stairs for the flat. The council said that it had received some concerns about the noise and the impact on the area.
But the council has decided that prior approval is not required for the change of use. In its report on the matter, the council said: "It should be noted that along Annesley Road, there are a number of vacant units, and others that have undergone conversion to a residential use."
Leisure centre extension
Some changes are being made as work continues to extend the main pool hall at the Hucknall Leisure Centre. Ashfield District Council had already given permission for the extension at the site on Linby Road.
As well as the main pool extension, the permission also covered the addition of a new learner pool. But as work on the project continues, the leisure centre applied to the council for some minor changes to be made to its original application.
The changes included the repositioning of two entrance doors and the removal of a roof access ladder. The council said that the changes will not impact on issues such as car parking and visual amenity and has therefore given its permission for the amendments to be made.
