Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi has confirmed a story expansion is now in development for the game, with photo mode and new mini game expected in the coming months.Even with GTA 6 on the horizon, Capcom is making sure its name is at the front of your mind throughout 2026, with Resident Evil Requiem being perhaps the most-beloved game of the year so far, and Monster Hunter Stories 3 review scores coming in pretty hot. You would think the developers would be all hands on deck for Pragmata and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, but more Requiem was seemingly too good to pass up (and after selling 5 million copies in under a week, no wonder).Nakanishi appears in a video on the official Resident Evil Twitter account to thank players for being so into the game, saying: "On behalf of the development team, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude". And to express that gratitude, he confirms some updates for the game, including "the much-awaited photo mode," although there was no release date given for this. Perhaps more exciting is "another surprise coming around May: we're planning to add a minigame." While Nakanishi didn't name-drop exactly what this minigame will be, it's gotta be The Mercenaries right? You don't make a Leon Kennedy that feels that incredible to play as only to not let him let loose in The Mercenaries.

Finally, Nakanishi announces "one more thing," and after shuffling through images that seemed to (jokingly) imply dating, cooking, match 3 and poker modes, as well as a DLC that turns Grace and Leon into cats, he holds up a sheet of paper saying "Resident Evil Requiem story expansion now in development."Nakanishi doesn't say who or what the expansion will be about, but promises "we will dive deeper into the world of Requiem." However, he warns: "It will take some time, so we ask for your patience." Shadows of Rose released around a year and a half after Resident Evil Village, while Not a Hero and End of Zoe for Resident Evil 7 both released around 11 months after launch, so I'd probably not hold my breath for a 2026 release when it comes to Requiem DLC. But at least Mercenaries, or whatever the new minigame is, will hopefully keep us warm.
