Researchers Unearth First-ever Canaanite Sentence Ever Found In Israel

An archaeologist at the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) shows a lice comb from the Bar Kochba Jewish revolt period, excavated from an area in the Judean Desert, in Jerusalem, on March 16, 2021. Israel described the find as one of the most significant since the Dead Sea Scrolls. MENAHEM KAHANA/AFP VIA GETTY IMAGES

Archaeologists have discovered the first entire Canaanite sentence ever found in Israel, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem announced on Monday.

Written on an ivory comb unearthed in 2017, the sentence comprises seven words—a spell against lice.
