Rescue drama in Calderglen Country Park as man survives horror plunge overnight

Dramatic scenes unfolded at Calderglen Country Park today as firefighters rescued a man who had survived a horror plunge overnight.

Emergency crews, including water rescue support, raced to the scene in East Kilbride where firefighters staged the daring rescue on difficult terrain deep into the forest along the Rotten Calder River.

Lanarkshire Live understands the casualty fell down a steep embankment some time last night and was only just discovered by a dog walker earlier this morning.

His condition is not yet known but he is reportedly being treated at Wishaw Hospital.

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture said: “It would appear a member of the public suffered a fall down an embankment. They were discovered by a dog walker who called emergency services and alerted a member of our team who was carrying out routine checks in the area.

“Our staff were able to assist the emergency services and the casualty was rescued from the location and transported to a waiting ambulance. The rescue commander thanked all the staff at the park for their assistance in the rescue.

“We hope the individual involved makes a full and speedy recovery.”
