Republican Senators Call For Increased Security For Trump

Donald Trump to testify in New York civil fraud trial

Republican senators are urging the Secret Service to enhance security measures for former President Donald Trump after a second assassination attempt in just over two months. Senators Roger Marshall and Tommy Tuberville have written a letter to Acting Director Ronald Rowe, emphasizing the need for additional protective resources for the USSS detail assigned to President Trump.

The most recent assassination attempt occurred at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the former president was golfing. The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, allegedly attempted to breach the perimeter by pushing the muzzle of an AK-47 through the chain-link fence surrounding the course.

Upon spotting the suspect raising the firearm, Secret Service agents opened fire, prompting Routh to flee the scene in a black Nissan. He was later apprehended by authorities.

The senators are calling for increased staffing capabilities to allow agents to secure a broader perimeter around President Trump. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of the former president, prompting calls for heightened vigilance and protective measures.
