The homeland security secretary, Kristi Noem, said on Monday that all federal agents in Minneapolis will immediately begin wearing body cameras and that the program will be expanded nationwide “as funding is available”.
The announcement comes after the Republican senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin suggested, in a concession that could pave the way to an agreement on Capitol Hill to fund the much-criticized agency, that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents could wear body cameras on immigration patrols.
