Report: Titans hiring Justin Outten as RBs coach

The Tennessee Titans have made yet another addition to their coaching staff, with the team reportedly adding a running backs coach on Tuesday.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Tennessee is hiring former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Justin Outten to replace Tony Dews, who is now coaching tight ends, as running backs coach. He will also serve as run-game coordinator.

The Titans were reportedly interested in Outten back in January, but it wasn’t clear for what role.

Prior to serving as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator, Outten was the tight ends coach for the Green Bay Packers (2019-21) under former Titans offensive coordinator, Matt LaFleur.

While Outten was the offensive coordinator for Denver’s offense, which was one of the worst in the NFL last season, he didn’t start calling plays until Week 17.

During his time as play-caller, the Broncos saw improvement in their offense, albeit in a very limited sample size. His approach? Stressing the run game and molding the offense to his quarterback’s strengths.

Outten is just the latest coaching staff hire after Tennessee announced a shake-up at several spots, highlighted by the hiring of new offensive coordinator, Tim Kelly.
