The Tennessee Titans are reportedly expressing interest in a trade for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback, L’Jarius Sneed.
The news comes from USA TODAY’s Tyler Dragon, who notes that the Titans are one of several teams expressing interest in the franchise-tagged cornerback, who KC has given permission to seek a trade.
Other teams listed include the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars.
After striking out with Kristian Fulton, who is set to hit free agency and highly unlikely to return, the Titans are in the market for a No. 1 cornerback on the boundary this offseason.
Sneed would certainly check that box after an impressive four-year run in Kansas City.
Sneed had arguably his best season in 2023 after surrendering a career-best completion rate of 51.0% and a passer rating of 56.2, the second-lowest mark of his career.
He thrives in zone coverage, where he didn’t give up a single touchdown and a league-best four yards per target last season, as Dragon points out.
The 27-year-old also posted an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 71.1, and run defense, pass-rush and coverage grades of 70.7, 63.3 and 71.9, respectively.
Sneed is currently set to make $19.8 million via the franchise tag but any team acquiring him would likely want to get an extension done to keep him around long term after giving up draft capital to get him.
What that draft capital is remains to be seen, but it shouldn’t be any higher than a Day 2 pick considering the circumstances. The Titans only have one selection on Day 2 of this year’s draft, which comes in the second round.
Ideally, the Titans don’t trade any of their 2024 picks and instead acquire Sneed with a 2025 selection.
