Report: Timberwolves Receive Encouraging Anthony Edwards Injury Update

The Timberwolves received good news about Anthony Edwards’s timeline to return after he sprained his ankle during Minnesota’s 139–131 double-overtime loss to the Bulls on Friday.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania on Sunday, Edwards was seen still wearing a walking boot and his swelling has gone down. From here, the Timberwolves plan to evaluate the 21-year-old day-to-day before determining his official return to the court.

Initially, the team and coach Chris Finch weren’t sure how long Edwards would be out, but it was expected to be a while if the injury got worse.

Edwards sprained his right ankle in the first quarter of Friday’s game. He was officially ruled out in the third quarter as he didn’t return to action. He then missed Saturday’s game vs. the Raptors, in which the Timberwolves lost 122–107.

Edwards is averaging 25 points, six rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 46% from the floor and 36.9% from three-point range this season.

The Timberwolves currently sit in the eighth spot of the Western Conference with a 35–37 record. As of now, Minnesota would compete in the play-in tournament in order to make the playoffs.
