Ray Allen III, the son of two-time NBA champion and Basketball Hall of Famer Ray Allen, has committed to play basketball at Rhode Island, according to a report from Rhode Island color analyst Chris DiSano.
Allen III will be joining the program as a preferred walk-on, and will play for assistant coach Duane Woodward, who played against Allen III’s father during their Big East days, according to Adam Zagoria. Woodward played at Boston College from 1994 to ’98, while Allen was at UConn. Former Dayton and Indiana coach Archie Miller is entering his second year as URI’s head coach.
Allen III is an unranked prospect by all major recruiting services, and hails from Gulliver Prep in Miami. The 6’ 1” shooting guard will look to make a name for himself for the Rams in hopes of becoming a scholarship player and contributor to the program in the future.
Allen III and his dad toured Ryan Center in February, and was a high priority for Rhode Island to add as a walk-on.
