The Carolina Panthers are set to speak with Sean Payton about their head-coaching vacancy today. But it’s another interview for the hot commodity that’s now stealing the headlines.
As reported by Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com this morning, the former New Orleans Saints head coach has scheduled a second interview with the Denver Broncos. The meeting will take place on Wednesday.
This latest development feels like another step in the right direction for Payton and the Broncos, who have been perceived as favorites for the 59-year-old’s services.
“Given the fluidity of the situation and the number of moving parts involved, things could change on a whim, so take that into consideration while trying to handicap this race. But right now, the Broncos appear to be the frontrunners for the former New Orleans Saints head coach.”
Outside of Payton, the candidates who remain in consideration for Carolina’s job include Steve Wilks, Jim Caldwell, Frank Reich, Shane Steichen, Ken Dorsey, Mike Kafka, Kellen Moore and Ejiro Evero.
