Report: No trade sweepstakes incoming for Bulls star Zach LaVine

It’s been a weird season for the Chicago Bulls. After a 5-14 start to the year, it seemed as though they might fade into irrelevancy, destined to reset the roster at the trade deadline. Instead, they’ve bounced back. Since that start, they’ve gone 8-3, bringing their record to 13-17 on the season and putting them in the race for a Play-In spot.

That said, they will likely still look to make trades at the deadline, with a Zach LaVine deal being at the forefront of discussions. All of Chicagos’ success has been since LaVine went down with an injury, and the Bulls are reportedly “focused” on finding a trade for him.

However, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Spots, there isn’t likely to be a huge market for LaVine.

“One problem: There was little substance to be shared on the ground, much to the disappointment of many executives eager for activity,” Fischer wrote. “There are no Zach LaVine trade sweepstakes unfolding for the Chicago Bulls, or anything more than preliminary conversations between the Toronto Raptors and other teams regarding their veteran talent that have been confirmed.”

A recent report from Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic indicated that the Los Angeles Lakers were expected to push hard for a LaVine trade, but if Fischer’s report is true, there may not be a competitive market for the Bulls to bank on in negotiations.

It’s unclear if the Bulls will completely reset the roster, but it’s looking more and more like they will move on from LaVine, regardless of the market.
