Much has been made of Taylor Swift’s impact on the NFL the last two weeks amid her rumored relationship with Travis Kelce, who said that the NFL is “overdoing it a little bit” when it comes to how much the league is capitalizing off her popularity. The NFL was ripped for constantly cutting to Swift in her suite when she attended the Jets-Chiefs game Sunday, and now it appears that it has gone even further.
The NFL asked networks NBC, ESPN, Fox and CBS to all show promos for her upcoming movie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, for free, according to the New York Post. Fans were quick to notice the significant amount of ads featuring Swift or Kelce over this past weekend’s slate of games as it becomes clearer how invested the NFL is in this storyline.
ESPN and NBC agreed to the move while Fox and CBS did not. ESPN played the free Swift movie promos during Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday NFL Countdown. NBC played the ad on Football Night in America before the the Jets-Chiefs game in which Swift attended. There was also a Swift ad during the game itself but it was paid for.
The NFL and its broadcast partners declined to comment when reached out to by the New York Post.
