The Kansas City Chiefs had three of their top players injured at their first padded practice on Friday and were without a fourth key contributor on Saturday as they took the field in St. Joseph.
An early report from practice provided by Arrowhead Pride’s Pete Sweeney on Twitter has indicated that star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is absent from the Chiefs’ first weekend workout, which could be something for fans to keep their eyes on moving into the second week of training camp.
Not practicing on Saturday for #Chiefs: DE Mike Danna (calf), WR Jody Fortson (right shoulder), DT Chris Jones, LB Isaiah Moore (knee), CB L’Jarius Sneed, WR Kadarius Toney (knee), LB Drue Tranquill (neck) and DT Turk Wharton (ACL)

Sneed has become one of the team’s most valuable defenders and is in a contract year with his rookie deal set to expire at the end of the 2023 season. Whether this absence was due to an injury, illness, or was excused is unknown, but with him out, Sweeney reported that Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson were Kansas City’s top cornerbacks with the first team.
With L’Jarius Sneed out of the mix, it’s Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson as the team’s top cornerbacks. Nazeeh Johnson outside with Trent sliding in for nickel looks.

Though Sneed’s departure may prove to be brief, this has effectively revealed what Kansas City’s depth chart looks like at the cornerback position. Nazeeh Johnson’s presence in the nickel package is particularly interesting, given his relatively small role in the Chiefs’ defense last season.
