The Week 1 status of Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy is now up in the air following a report concerning an injury the fourth-year pro sustained during Thursday’s practice.
Denver expects Jeudy, 24, to miss “several weeks” due to a moderate hamstring injury, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The update comes just a few hours after the former first-round pick was carted off the field during Broncos practice.
While the diagnosis will reportedly affect Jeudy’s short-team availability, Denver remains hopeful for his outlook going forward, with Rapoport and Pelissero reporting there’s “optimism” from the team the injury is “nothing long-term.”
Set to enter the year as one of Denver’s top offensive weapons, Jeudy exited practice early after he “grabbed his upper right leg” after taking an end-around during the team’s joint session with the Rams, per NFL Network’s James Palmer. He was “visibly upset” following the play and needed assistance to get on the cart and enter the team’s facility, per Palmer.
With Jeudy’s health now in question, the Broncos face the likely possibility of playing their Sept. 10 home showdown against the Raiders, and maybe longer, without the rising star at Russell Wilson’s disposal in the quarterback’s second season in Colorado.
A starter in 14 of his 15 appearances in 2022, Jeudy turned in the best year of his young career, finishing with a career-high 67 receptions, 972 yards and six touchdowns.
