New England Patriots running back James White doesn’t seem to be done with football. White, who underwent hip surgery in 2021, is progressing well in his recovery and wants to keep playing, per The Boston Herald’s Karen Gureigian.
White has played eight seasons in New England, rushing for 1,278 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has also caught 381 passes for 3,278 yards and 25 touchdowns.
In 2021, White caught 12 passes for 96 yards for the Patriots. He was finding a role as a security blanket for quarterback Mac Jones, featured as the third-down running back. The injury occurred during New England’s contest against the New Orleans Saints. He landed on his hip after a six-yard carry, and was ruled out the rest of the game.
White’s injury led to the emergence of Brandon Bolden as the Patriots’ pass-catching back. Bolden caught 41 catches for 405 yards and 21 first downs.
Like Bolden, White is a free agent this offseason.
The Patriots will have to make a decision on White among others, as they look to restructure their roster for 2022.
