Giants designate QB Tyrod Taylor to return from IR

The New York Giants are riding a two-game winning streak behind third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito, but his time as the team’s starter could be coming to a close soon.

On Monday, the Giants opened the practice window for primary backup Tyrod Taylor’s return from injured reserve. They have 21 days to activate him on the roster.

Taylor has been out the last four weeks with a rib injury, leaving the Giants to turn to DeVito, the undrafted rookie and local kid who has created a stir and revitalized the Giants’ sagging season.

The Giants might not turn back to Taylor as he is 34 years old and is in the final season of his contract. They may only choose to ride the DeVito wave the rest of the way and bring him and starter Daniel Jones back next season in addition to another veteran (Matt Barkley) to fill up the quarterback room.
