The Cleveland Browns have their new running backs coach as Duce Staley turns away the New York Jets.
He had offers from both teams, but the former NFL running back is coming to Cleveland as the replacement for the recently let-go Stump Mitchell. CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson was the first to report the news.
Staley has been coaching since 2010 when he got his start with the Philadelphia Eagles. He has also been the running backs coach and assistant head coach of the Detroit Lions, as well as the Carolina Panthers. He was let go by the Panthers by interim head coach Chris Tabor after the firing of Frank Reich.
The health of Nick Chubb is a massive factor in the running back room, but the Browns were not able to pull adequate performances from their young backs in Jerome Ford or Pierre Strong Jr. Perhaps a change in voice can get the best out of these players (or any other young back that could be drafted in the 2024 NFL draft).
