Report: Details of Domingo German Yankees Clubhouse Incident Surface

Details have emerged regarding an incident involving pitcher Domingo Germán a day after the Yankees said the pitcher was being placed on the restricted list to undergo inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse.

According to SNY’s Andy Martino, Germán “grew belligerent” in the clubhouse Tuesday night and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and “did not appear in control of his emotions.” It’s unclear whether there was any type of altercation or if any of his teammates were involved.

Germán last pitched for the Yankees on Monday, throwing five shutout innings of relief during a 5–1 loss to the Rays. He was originally slated to start that game before being scratched with an armpit injury. Martino reported that his behavior Tuesday was not believed to be connected to his injury.

Germán had previously served an 81-game suspension for violating the league’s domestic violence policy. Tuesday’s incident is reportedly not related to any domestic situation, per Martino, and Germán is not currently under any investigation by MLB or in violation of the policy. General manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday that he will not pitch the rest of the season.
