Less than three weeks before their season opener, the Cowboys could be faced with losing a key player for a good chunk of the year.
Offensive tackle Tyron Smith reportedly suffered a torn hamstring during Wednesday’s practice, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer and Adam Schefter.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapaport reports Smith needs surgery to specifically repair an avulsion fracture in his knee, as Smith’s hamstring reportedly pulled off the bone. According to Rapoport, the injury is similar to that of Jets offensive lineman Mekhi Becton, and the very earliest Smith can return is December, assuming his rehab goes perfectly.
