The Boston Celtics are reportedly set to name assistant Joe Mazzulla as interim head coach following the impending suspension of current head coach Ime Udoka. According to multiple sources, Udoka was engaged in a consensual relationship with a female staffer and could be suspended for the entire ’22-23 season as a result.
Mazzulla has been with the club since 2019 but is just 34 years old. Likewise, many of the current Celtics assistant coaches are either on the younger side or lack experience. Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix is reporting Boston could reach out to former head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers Frank Vogel.
Vogel won a title with LA back in 2020 and has served as a head coach for competitive teams in Orlando and Indiana as well. Lifetime he has a .526 winning percentage as a head coach in the NBA.

Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens has a long relationship with Vogel. The two first met when Stevens was serving as the coach of the Butler Bulldogs in Indiana. That friendship has last until this day.
