After the Chicago Bulls’ brutal start to the season, all the talk around the team was about what they would do at the trade deadline. Since then, they’ve turned their season around and find themselves firmly in the mix for a spot in the Play-In Tournament. Despite that, they’re still expected to be active at the deadline.
While they could end up sneaking into the postseason, they still don’t have the talent to compete with the top teams in the East, and trading some of their veterans could be the best course of action. Zach LaVine has been the primary name brought up in rumors, and it seems as though his time in Chicago could be coming to an end.
During an appearance on NBA Today, Brian Windhorst of ESPN stated that the Bulls still very much want to trade LaVine, and that the star shooting guard would “happily” leave. (H/t Jack Murray of Bleacher Report)
“If they could trade Zach LaVine in the next five minutes they would trade him and Zach would happily go to the airport,” Windhorst said. “I don’t think anything has changed there, I think they absolutely want to trade him.”
LaVine has played fairly well since his return from injury, but he has three years left on his massive contract after this one, and the Bulls could use a new path forward.
Reports from earlier in the season indicated that the Bulls were focused on finding a trade for LaVine, and it seems as though that plan still exists to this day.
