Report: Browns Hosting Visit for Familiar Face at Running Back After Nick Chubb Knee Injury

The Browns are hosting free agent running back Kareem Hunt for a visit Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the gruesome injury to running back Nick Chubb in the Steelers’ 26–22 win on Monday Night Football, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Moments after Chubb’s frightful injury, which occurred in the red zone during the early part of the second quarter of Monday’s game, Hunt’s name began trending on X (formerly known as Twitter).

A sector of Cleveland fans suggested that the team should reach out to the 28-year-old as a backup runner after he played in 17 games for the Browns in 2022, registering 468 yards on 123 carries and three touchdowns while averaging 3.8 yards per carry. He also compiled 35 receptions for 210 yards and one receiving touchdown.

Hunt’s latest trip to Cleveland marks his fourth visit with an NFL team this offseason after previously seeing the Vikings, Saints and Colts. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Friday that Indianapolis was still in communication with the veteran running back.

Based on reports in August, many expected Hunt, 28, to sign with New Orleans pending team physicals. However, things took a twist when The Athletic’s Dianna Russini—who was then working for ESPN—reported that the Colts contacted Hunt for a workout prior to him visiting the Saints and offered him more money.

Nevertheless, no deal with either team came to fruition for Hunt.

With Chubb expected to miss the rest of the season, the Browns’ depth at running back currently consists of Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong Jr.
