Two weeks ago, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of the Denver Broncos pursuing quarterback Kirk Cousins during NFL free agency.
Pelissero increased that apparent speculation on Sunday night when he named the Broncos as a team that could “quite possibly” pursue Cousins this week.
Not so fast, according to national and local reporters.
“While the Denver Broncos had some conversations about the possibility of going after QB Kirk Cousins, they are not going to be pursuing him if he hits free agency, per sources,” The Athletic‘s Dianna Russini tweeted on Sunday.
Ten minutes later, Troy Renck of the Denver Post tweeted this: “There is no question the Broncos are intrigued by Kirk Cousins and how he would fit in Payton’s offense. But pursuing him during a rebuild — and that’s what they are doing — doesn’t make sense. And it makes less sense for Cousins, who will have multiple options, including Atlanta and Minnesota.”
Denver will be in the market for a quarterback after releasing Russell Wilson, but Cousins does not appear to be among their realistic options. There are other free agent quarterbacks the Broncos could pursue, and the team also holds the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Denver will likely add a QB this offseason, but it won’t be Cousins.
