Report: Boston Celtics ‘not expected to have interest’ Carmelo Anthony signing

If you were among the hopeful that the Boston Celtics might finally sign veteran forward Carmelo Anthony after the team lost vet swingman Danilo Gallinari to an ACL tear for the 2022-23 season this summer in FIBA qualifier play, you might be in for some disappointing news.

Per MassLive’s Brian Robb, the Celtics “are not expected to have interest in bringing in the veteran for a signing ahead of training camp,” per multiple league sources. Robb is careful to note that while the team may not have an interest now with their attention focused inwardly to see if they may have an answer already on the roster to the Gallo injury, that he believes such a deal could happen later in the season ” if they need some scoring punch off the bench”.

For now, this move will open some time for younger players already on Boston’s roster like Sam Hauser and Mfiondu Kabengele to show they may be deserving of a bigger role, and camp invitees like Bruno Caboclo and Noah Vonleh to show they belong.
