Patriots coach Bill Belichick hasn't been afraid to shake things up over the course of his three-decade coaching career. It's a trait that has served him well en route to six Super Bowls and nine conference championships.
Now, it appears Belichick is eyeing a major change after New England finished 8–9 in a lackluster 2022 season.
Belichick “has shopped [quarterback Mac] Jones to multiple teams during the 2023 offseason," according to a Tuesday morning report from ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio.
Per Florio, those teams include the Texans, Raiders, Buccaneers and Commanders, all of whom are quarterback-needy in one way or another.
The reported trade talks come on the heels of a sophomore slump for Jones. A year after steering the Patriots to the postseason and making the Pro Bowl as a rookie, Jones threw just 14 touchdowns against 11 interceptions in 2023 and missed three games with a sprained ankle.
New England drafted Jones, 24, out of Alabama with the No. 15 pick in 2021. Jones finished third in the Heisman voting in 2020, during which he led the Crimson Tide to the national title.
