It’s surreal to think the New England Patriots could be approaching their final two games with Bill Belichick as the head coach, but that seems to be the vibe, despite the recent wins over the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos.
According to a new report from the Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi, Belichick might be feeling it as well.
Per Giardi, the legendary coach “expressed doubt” to the staff on his future in New England. The Patriots are on the verge of their second straight losing season, and they are currently dead last in the AFC East division. There have been multiple missed draft picks and bad free agent signings that haven’t panned out in recent years.
So Kraft could be looking to move in a different direction at the end of the season. Giardi wrote:
If he won’t survive, I think this is a massive misstep by (Robert and Jonathan Kraft). They could turn the final week against the Jets into a celebration of all Bill’s accomplishments here and guarantee a full house for a meaningless game. Instead, by dragging it out, they risk turning and burning Belichick on Black Monday. That doesn’t feel right to me.
Speaking of Belichick, he has expressed doubt about his future in New England to the staff at various points over the last few weeks. To the best of my knowledge (and as reported on NFL Network this weekend), he has yet to sit down with ownership. If he won't survive, I think…

It would be great to see Belichick end his tenure in New England in a celebratory manner during the team’s season finale against the New York Jets. Would Belichick even agree to something like that knowing he isn’t ending his time with the Patriots on his own terms?
Maybe he would be fine with being honored in his final game as a Patriot, or maybe he would rather do his job, finish out his career elsewhere and come back at a later point to celebrate on his own terms.
