Update: The Bears have since traded Robert Quinn to the Eagles.
With the NFL trade deadline less than a week away, there’s been plenty of discussion about the possibility of the Bears trading defensive end Robert Quinn.
CBS Sports’ Jason LaCanfora reported that Chicago was shopping Quinn ahead of the deadline. But there’s a new report indicating that’s not the case.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Bears made it clear, privately, that they’re not interested in trading Quinn.
But it’s noteworthy that Chicago made clear privately as of late last week that it wasn’t moving Quinn. Then, the Bears went ahead and rocked New England 33-14 to climb to 3-4. So, perhaps Chicago stays put on him.
Quinn is coming off one of his best seasons, where he set a franchise record with 18.5 sacks. He also made the Pro Bowl and was named an All-Pro. But Quinn has gotten off to a bit of a slow start this season, as he has just one sack in seven games this season.
With general manager Ryan Poles retooling the roster, the belief was he could look to move Quinn. After all, he did trade Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason.
The Bears have a solid trio behind Quinn in Al-Quadin Muhammad, Trevis Gipson and rookie Dominique Robinson at defensive end. But it sounds like the plan is for Quinn, who has a $18.2 million salary cap hit in 2023, to remain in Chicago for now.
