Report: Angels Acquire Three-Time All-Star in Trade With Rockies

The Angels and Rockies are in the middle of a three-game series at Coors Field, but that didn’t stop their front offices from negotiating a trade.

Following the Halos’ stunning 25–1 victory against Colorado on Saturday, multiple sources reported that the two teams had agreed to a trade which would send veteran infielder Mike Moustakas to Anaheim in exchange for pitching prospect Connor Van Scoyoc. The Angels later confirmed the deal.

Angels manager Phil Nevin indicated that the team had designated Kevin Padlo for assignment in a corresponding roster move.

Moustakas figures to join the team on Sunday ahead of its matchup against the Rockies, though it’s unclear if there are any plans to insert him into the lineup. He won’t have far to travel to link up with his new teammates, however, as they’ll be in the opposite dugout on Sunday.

2023 was Moustakas’s first season in Colorado. The 34-year-old has featured in 47 games this season, slashing .270/.360/.435 with four home runs and 17 RBI.

The 13-year veteran played eight seasons with the Royals from 2011-18, and has since spent time with the BrewersReds, Rockies, and now the Angels. He made three All-Star Games in his career and won a World Series with Kansas City in 2015. He now joins an Angels team that is looking to reach the postseason for the first time since 2014.
